The Bethany College women’s basketball team secured a playoff spot by beating Kansas Wesleyan University, 75-68, at home on Feb. 19. On Saturday at Friends University, the Swedes won their last regular season game 65-62.
LENEXA – The first of the three winter sports wrapped up this past weekend in Lenexa at the class 5A-1A boys state swim meet, as the McPherson Bullpups/Smoky Valley Vikings fought their way in team points to finish in 31st and 33rd place, respectively. Following the league meet in Hutchinson a week and a half ago, McPherson/Smoky Valley took plenty of momentum into last weekend’s state meet as swimmers Gabe House, Beckett Schuckman, Cooper Bohme, Ethan Elder, and Ben Bocox were set to compete.
After 16 days away from the diamond because of winter weather, the Bethany College softball team returned to play with two wins against different teams in Branson, Mo., during a tournament that continued at press time.
The Bethany College men’s basketball team won handily against Kansas Wesleyan University on Feb. 19 to stay in a run for the playoffs but lost by an even wider margin Saturday at Friends University to see their season end, with a 9-13 conference record and 12-15 overall.
The Bethany College baseball team won the first game of a three-game series against Avila University on Sunday and Monday but lost the second two.
