Spending plan passes, headed for red ink
TOPEKA — The Legislature adopted a spending plan March 27 that fully funds public schools, provides pay raises for state employees, eliminates DEI initiatives, polices pronouns in emails, and puts the state on a course to blow through billions in reserves and face a budget shortfall within three years. Senate Bill 125 finalizes $27.08 billion in spending for the current fiscal year, which ends June 30, and provides the blueprint for how the state will spend $25.6 billion next year.
Tax bills pass, with Democratic critics

Bethany tennis teams lose 4
The Bethany College tennis teams are facing top KCAC teams four meets in a row. The men and women both lost 7-0 at McPherson College on March 26.
Bethany golf team places 13th in Enid
The Bethany College men’s golf team tied for 13th out of 16 teams in the Oakwood Intercollegiate in Enid, Okla., on March 24-25. The Swedes’ top finisher was Mads Hasenschwandtner, who tied for 26th among 92 individual players, shooting par in his second round and 6 over in both of the other two.
Bethany hires women's soccer coach
Bethany College hired Elliot Cockrum to be head coach of the women’s soccer team. He began the job Monday.
