Assaria City Council minutes April 14

The Assaria City Council meeting for April 14 2025 was held at the City Building at 7:00. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Maggie Reeves Members present: Rick Tanner, Ben Ashmore, Kelli Witte, and Troy Long Visitors present: Bruce Bertrand and Terry Patry A motion was made by Kelli Witte and seconded by Troy Long to approve the March minutes as presented.

Suits allege violation of age-verification law

TOPEKA — A bundle of federal lawsuits in Kansas have been filed on behalf of a 14-year-old Olathe resident alleging owners of online businesses violated a state law mandating steps be taken to prevent minors from accessing pornography lacking scientific, artistic, or political value. The law center of the National Center on Sexual Exploitation, a conservative anti-pornography organization in Washington, D.C., collaborated with a Hutchinson law firm to file suit on behalf of minor Q.R.

Gypsum City Council minutes April 14

Mayor Kruse called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Councilmembers: David Jackson, Jerry Sorenson, Vernon Cathey, Scott Bickel, Deborah Murphy Guests: Tracy Dahl, Paul & Dee Harris, Kimmy Phillips, Connie Dahl, Sharon Swisher, Deb Hall, Brennan Fitzgerald, Devin Heier, Noah Pfannenstiel, Alex Weller, Gary Olson, Bryant Olson, Officer Trembly, Officer Heinrich Minutes from the March 10th meeting were mailed out for council review.

American Legion events for Memorial Day American Legion Post 140 will be involved in the following Memorial Day activities, and welcomes help from people who are not Legion members. Friday, 5 p.m.: American flags and markers will be placed on more than 400 veteran graves at Elmwood Cemetery.

Vikings don gowns and move on

Family members and friends largely filled Bethany College’s Presser Hall on Saturday evening to see Smoky Valley High School award diplomas to and send on their ways 52 young adults, who did not launch their graduation caps but did congregate afterward, in ideal weather, for hugs and pictures. The orchestrated ceremony, in which everyone read their words, covered a stately procession, a show of childhood pictures, honors, three speakers, diploma presentations, and a recessional in a little over an hour.
