MEREDITH MAGLIERY

Meredith Magliery, 84, of Lindsborg, Kansas, passed away at her home in the early morning of July 5, 2025, in the loving presence and long-term care of her beloved friends Cathy Lee and Nile Johnson.
Meredith was born June 22, 1941, in Providence, Rhode Island. She grew up in New England and lived for years in Florida, but found her true home in Lindsborg in 1975. She made lasting friends in disparate communities throughout her life, including arts and drama in central Florida; the campus and campus-adjacent music and artistic crowd in Lindsborg and at Bethany College; many years working at Bethany Home; and a vibrant circle of old and new online friends in her later years. Though she and computers didn’t always get along nicely, it was never an easy task for us humans to beat her at Words With Friends. Meredith dabbled in artwork of many kinds, but her primary medium for creativity throughout life was yarn, especially in crocheted form, and nearly every person she knew–and many she didn’t–were beneficiaries of this passion at some time or other.
Among many occupations her longest and proudest time was her career at Bethany Home, working nights on the floors, passing meds and otherwise caring for the residents. If your mom or dad lived in Bethany Home during the 1980s or 1990s, Meredith knew them, loved them and could tell you a story about them.
The pride she took in this career may have been exceeded only by that which she felt for her children.
Meredith is survived by her son Thomas (Lisa Grant) Magliery (Vancouver, BC); son-in-law Tim Deiser (Hutchinson, KS); granddaughters Amanda Terrel (Wellington, KS) and Amber Weaver (Chase, KS); and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Virginia Deiser (Hutchinson, KS), sister Merelynn Schimpf (Hollywood, FL), and parents William and Virginia Winterbottom (Crossville, TN).
In accordance with Meredith’s wishes, there will be no memorial service or ceremony. She would want you to spend your memorial energy supporting others who need the power of community. Please consider a donation of money or time to an organization that does good work, such as Alcoholics Anonymous (if that is appropriate for you), or anyone who provides meals for the elderly.
Although there will be no formal ceremony, Meredith’s ashes will be spread at the campground where she found the most peace and joy in the world. These will be spread together with the ashes of her friend Brent Selby, with whom she often shared that special place.
