High court rejects rationale for pulling over motorist

TOPEKA — The Kansas Supreme Court reversed the drug-trafficking conviction of an Illinois-tagged motorist linked to evidence seized from a vehicle stopped by Geary County law enforcement merely because the frame around a license plate obstructed part of the state’s name. The unanimous Supreme Court noted Kansas statute didn’t require a state’s name on license plates to be clearly legible.

Hospital better off than others for Medicaid cuts

The big spending bill in Congress would cut Medicaid reimbursement to Kansas hospitals by 15 percent and add to the risk of small ones closing, as well as end coverage for 5,000 rural Kansans, one study says. The administrator of Lindsborg Community Hospital said it is relatively well positioned, because of its affiliation with a larger health system and because of having among its patients relatively few Medicaid recipients.
