Dorothy E. “Dotty” Hedquist, 77, of Lindsborg, went to be with Jesus, Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Bethany Home, Lindsborg. Dotty was born April 6, 1948, in Denver, Colorado. She was the only child of Dee Elvin and Virginia Hedquist.
Dotty was born with spastic cerebral palsy which left her with no hip socket on her left side. She was in leg braces until her teen years. After using leg braces, she transitioned to using wrist crutches, which she relied on for most of her adult life. Dotty felt that she did not have a handicap; she just had a different way of doing what she needed to do.
She did attend the Boettcher School for the Handicapped in Denver, Colorado, for all of her elementary and high school education. After high school, Dotty attended Colorado Women’s College/Temple Buell College. She graduated in 1969 and went on to receive her master’s degree at Colorado State College in 1970. Following college, she went to work for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Colorado, where she worked until 1988, when she moved with her parents to Lindsborg. In Lindsborg, Dotty worked at Bethany College, Bethany Home, and at the Covenant Church.
Dotty was an active member of the Covenant Church. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, attended many Bible study groups, and was active with the Covenant Women. Dotty was a prayer warrior and prayed for many people and praised God for answered prayers. Dotty always had a positive outlook on every aspect of life. Her smile and positivity were contagious and influenced many people. A couple of Dotty’s favorite sayings were: “Prepare for the worst, hope for the best, and take what comes.”, also: “Things are hard by the yard, but are a cinch by the inch.” Dotty brought wit and joy to all who knew her.
Dotty moved to Bethany Home shortly before her parents passed and resided at the home for over 20 years. She was a much-loved resident and an encouragement to those around her. Dotty was preceded in death by her parents.
