Building for art's sake

Under the feet of visitors to the Birger Sandzén Memorial Gallery, in the basement, are suspended rails that carry 80 framed screens of heavy wire. The panels are 7 feet tall, most of them 12 feet long, and placed just far enough apart, half a foot center to center, for each side to carry framed paintings.

Coloradan at Red Barn

Dave Reiter, a landscape painter from Parker, Colo., will be the artist in residence at the Red Barn Studio Museum from Saturday to March 29. He will focus on preparing for a two-person show in November at the Carriage Factory Gallery in Newton.

City hires artist for 'Chalk the Välk' event

The Lindsborg City Council on Monday night approved a $8,355 contract with Ann Arbor, Mich., artist David Zinn to teach at a new event, Chalk the Välk, which will make the Välkommen Trail north of Lincoln Street a canvas April 12 during the Messiah Festival of the Arts. The contract is with understanding that Salina Arts & Humanities will contribute $3,500 – before the event, Zinn will also lead classes in Salina.
