School board OKs $166,302 for bus
The Smoky Valley Board of Education on July 23 approved $166,302 for a new school bus but hopes that a grant will cover a quarter of the cost when the vehicle is delivered sometime in the 2026-27 school year.

TOPEKA — Administrators of public universities in the Kansas Board of Regents system proposed student tuition increases for undergraduate resident students in the upcoming academic year ranging from 2.5% at Pittsburg State University to 4% at Fort Hays State University. The outlier was Emporia State University, which responded to steady enrollment declines by requesting no increase in tuition for the second consecutive year.
School board hears about adding golf to sports
The Smoky Valley Board of Education on Monday night approved $72,000 for resurfacing tennis courts. This is a process that recurs about every five years, for normal wear and tear.

The Smoky Valley Board of Education talked with three architectural firms Monday night about school district infrastructure renovation that could involve a multimillion-dollar bond election. The directors also approved staff estimates of how many students who live outside the district could be admitted to attend Smoky Valley schools in the 2025-26 school year, based on projected class sizes.
