Getting around in the snow and ice comes with a learning curve, but it also offers plenty of fun. Two highlights of living in Östersund are kicksleds and the opening of the Winter Beach.

A hot Swedish heart-shaped waffle with generous whipped cream and lingonberry jam is the perfect companion for a day of gliding over snow-covered slopes. But delicious treats are just one reason to love skiing in Sweden.

The beloved semla has a long history in Sweden. I decided to honor that history by declaring a "battle of the bun" between five Östersund bakeries.
