School board talks of major renovation plan

The Smoky Valley Board of Education talked with three architectural firms Monday night about school district infrastructure renovation that could involve a multimillion-dollar bond election. The directors also approved staff estimates of how many students who live outside the district could be admitted to attend Smoky Valley schools in the 2025-26 school year, based on projected class sizes.

No objection to use of things brawl defendant may have said

A defense attorney in the January 2024 street brawl case raised no objection to the prosecution using statements that police attribute to his client, including communication by phone after he was read his Miranda rights and declined to answer questions. Justin Ferrell, the public defender for Jaden Dashawn Evans, could later seek to keep statements from being presented at a trial scheduled for June 10, but expressed no concern at a short hearing before District Court Judge John Klenda on Friday in McPherson.
