Schwab expands on gubernatorial plans

TOPEKA — Secretary of State Scott Schwab elaborated Monday on plans to seek the Republican nomination for Kansas governor in 2026 by emphasizing the need to limit residential property taxes, forbid land acquisition by China and reduce the size of state government. Schwab, who served Johnson County in the Kansas House prior to election as secretary of state, has sought to stake out positions on policy issues ahead of potential GOP rivals in the contest to replace term-limited Democratic Gov.

City hires artist for 'Chalk the Välk' event

The Lindsborg City Council on Monday night approved a $8,355 contract with Ann Arbor, Mich., artist David Zinn to teach at a new event, Chalk the Välk, which will make the Välkommen Trail north of Lincoln Street a canvas April 12 during the Messiah Festival of the Arts. The contract is with understanding that Salina Arts & Humanities will contribute $3,500 – before the event, Zinn will also lead classes in Salina.
