Saying goodbye to Jesus

A friend of mine said he was saying goodbye to Jesus, because he had come to believe that Jesus stood for everything “woke.” The Sermon on the Mount was a case in point. There Jesus praises the peacemakers, urges people to love and not hate, and to forgive instead of giving retribution.

For today’s front-page feature, I watched fifth- and sixth-grade boys practice singing, among other works, “God Bless America.” I later heard them perform with more than 400 older boys at Bethany College. They opened with that patriotic song by the Russian immigrant Irving Berlin.

Unnecessary but loved

This Catechism of the Catholic Church serves as a sort of compendium of the oral teaching given by Jesus and passed down to us through the many generations of believers under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
