The Bethany College men’s basketball team won handily against Kansas Wesleyan University on Feb. 19 to stay in a run for the playoffs but lost by an even wider margin Saturday at Friends University to see their season end, with a 9-13 conference record and 12-15 overall.
The Bethany College baseball team won the first game of a three-game series against Avila University on Sunday and Monday but lost the second two.
The Bethany College men’s basketball team lost in overtime at Tabor College on Feb. 12, 110-106, but won at home Saturday against Evangel University, 85-81, to stay in the running for the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference playoffs.
At the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference indoor track and field championship, held Friday and Saturday in Omaha, Neb., the men’s team from Bethany College tied Bethel College for 10th place out of 12 teams. The women’s team was 11th out of 12.
The Bethany College baseball team won by one point both games of a doubleheader Monday against Sterling College, including a seven-inning game that stretched to 10.
The last step before state was taken Saturday by the McPherson High School/Smoky Valley High School boys swim team, as the Bullpups/Vikings claimed fourth place out of 10 teams at the AVCTL Division 3 and 4 league meet in Hutchinson. The class 5A-1A state boys swim and dive meet being will be held Feb.
The Bethany College baseball team won both games of a truncated home-opener series against Waldorf University on Friday, with a dozen fans bundled against breezes, cloudiness, and temperatures in the lower 40s. The weekend was even colder, and the second two games against the Iowa team were canceled.
The Bethany College wrestling team lost to Oklahoma Wesleyan and Avila University in Friday matches at the Oklahoma school in Bartlesville. Against Wesleyan, one Swede was given a win by way of forfeit, and Warrezi Mitchell lost his match in the 141-pound division.
